The Gere Kiss and Indian Hypocrisy

Much hullabaloo was raised about Richard Gere giving a peck to Shilpa Shetty. It seems we Indians do not kiss at all.

The absurdity is that a not so distant all India survey by the esteemed India Today Magazine had said that the ultimate Indian male fantasy is to hump a white woman. Stories abound of our politicians and businessmen and others who take trips to Europe and America and consort with white women of not so respectable repute and come back home satisfied.

Perhaps, these men are one of those who made an issue out of "white man giving a peck to an Indian woman", perhaps out of guilt about their own deeds and to redeem themselves before their wives.

Truth is we Indians have not got over our colonial hang up. An Indian humping a white woman at this age, maybe to our subconscious mind, an act of macho revenge for all the ills the White Race incurred on us. But a white man kissing an Indian woman in public reminds of too many past bad memories!So we can't take it.
